Eric Stanton | Fetish Illustrator and Author Pioneer, Publisher

Eric Stanton has been recognized as the king of fetish illustration and story since the 1950s. Restored volumes of his pioneering work are produced by Erosetti Press as an important contributions to the history of erotica and personal collecting.

Eric Stanton

Eric Stanton (born Ernest Stanzoni Jr. on September 30, 1926, in Brooklyn, New York) discovered his artistic voice early, tracing powerful comic-book heroines like Wonder Woman and Sheena by age twelve. After serving in the U.S. Navy during World War II—where he drew aircraft recognition strips and glamorous pin-ups for sailors, and a head injury left him partially color-blind—he honed his craft assisting newspaper cartoonist Gordon “Boody” Rogers and studying at the Cartoonists and Illustrators School alongside Steve Ditko, the future co-creator of Spider-Man.

In the late 1940s Stanton met mail-order publisher Irving Klaw and launched a legendary career in underground fetish illustration. Beginning with athletic “fighting femmes” in titles like Battling Women, his work evolved into theatrical bondage, domination, and power reversal. His long-limbed, steely-eyed amazons—corseted, high-heeled, and imperious—brought to life recurring themes of forced feminization, costume-as-fate, theatrical humiliation, and erotic hierarchy, all rendered in his unmistakable high-contrast black-and-white style that blended tension, dark humor, and stylized submission.

By the mid-1960s Stanton went independent with his Stantoons imprint, pioneering a direct-to-collector model that prefigured today’s niche erotic publishing. His influence reached far beyond fetish circles: Madonna modeled an early image on his archetype, painter Allen Jones celebrated his “pictorial invention” and wit, and his visual grammar of thigh-high boots, corsets, and commanding femininity shaped fashion, photography, and pop culture. Widely hailed as the father of modern fetish art until his death in 1999, Stanton turned personal fantasy into a private kingdom of power exchange that remains a foundational force for independent artists and collectors today.
